Calculating screen size and pixel density

A diagonal and a resolution are enough to calculate a rectangular screen's approximate dimensions and pixel density. The result describes the active rectangle represented by your inputs, not the enclosure around it.

The geometry behind the result

The width-to-height ratio comes from the input resolution. Combining that ratio with the diagonal gives the active width and height, while pixels along the diagonal divided by diagonal inches gives PPI. Enter the panel's actual resolution rather than a scaled desktop coordinate size.

Compare physical rectangles

The comparison view draws proportional rectangles from the entered sizes. It helps explain why two displays with the same diagonal can have different widths and heights. The drawing is relative; it is not intended to match real centimeters on your current browser screen.

Input quality matters

Rounded advertised diagonals, unusual pixel shapes and curved surfaces can make a simple rectangular estimate differ from a physical measurement. The calculator rejects missing or invalid dimensions. For mounting, desk clearance or a replacement panel, use the manufacturer's mechanical dimensions as well.

How to run the test

The diagram shows relative scale, not calibrated centimeters. Results depend on your inputs.

  1. Enter reliable diagonal and resolution specifications.

  2. Read PPI and physical dimensions.

  3. Compare candidate screens at the same viewing distance.

Patterns support visual inspection. Quantitative color accuracy, brightness, gamut coverage and response time require appropriate instruments and methods.

Frequently asked questions

Can this website automatically certify my screen?

No. It provides display test patterns and browser information. Screen anomalies that persist at the same position need visual inspection and, when needed, professional assessment.

Can I use a phone, tablet or TV?

Open the patterns and guides for your device. True full screen and touch depend on the browser; an immersive page preview remains available when full screen is unsupported.

Do I need to install software or upload data?

No installation is needed. Patterns, calculations and interactions run locally in your browser; theme preferences stay on your device.

What should I do if I notice a problem?

Rule out dust, reflections and display settings. Repeat under the same conditions, photograph defects that remain in the same screen position and check the device warranty policy.
