Pure black and lifted gray
Begin with the black pattern, then lift the requested gray level a little. Look for patches, glow or differences across the display. These controls change the webpage's RGB values; they do not change the hardware backlight or directly measure the light emitted by the screen.
Separate viewing-angle effects
Keep your head at the normal viewing position, then carefully compare another angle. A glow that changes with angle may behave differently from a fixed patch near an edge. Avoid pressing the panel or using a bright camera exposure as the sole basis for a judgment.
Keep shadow detail in view
A setting that makes a black field look darker can also merge several near-black tones. Cross-check the grayscale and contrast patterns, then watch normal dark content. The browser cannot convert that visual comparison into a measured black luminance or a panel contrast specification.
