Contrast Test

Checking separation at the dark and light ends

Contrast patterns help you inspect whether neighboring tones remain distinguishable near black and white. They are a practical check for lost detail, rather than a way to obtain a numerical contrast ratio.

Near-black detail

Inspect the darkest steps at a comfortable brightness and in consistent room light. If several merge together, compare the display's black-level and picture-mode settings. A dark room can make differences easier to see, but it can also change how you judge the screen in ordinary use.

Near-white detail

Look for distinct light steps without changing the viewing conditions between comparisons. A contrast or enhancement setting may cause several requested values to look alike. Check a normal image with bright detail after adjusting a setting so the synthetic pattern is not your only reference.

Numerical contrast measurements

A contrast ratio compares measured white and black luminance under a specified procedure. This page does not take those measurements. Dynamic dimming and picture processing can affect the result, so a credible numerical figure needs a controlled method as well as suitable equipment.

How to run the test

Look for merged near-black or near-white patches and check display enhancement settings.

  1. Use your usual environment and brightness.

  2. Inspect shadows and highlights separately.

  3. Cross-check with black-and-white patterns.

Patterns support visual inspection. Quantitative color accuracy, brightness, gamut coverage and response time require appropriate instruments and methods.

Frequently asked questions

Can this website automatically certify my screen?

No. It provides display test patterns and browser information. Screen anomalies that persist at the same position need visual inspection and, when needed, professional assessment.

Can I use a phone, tablet or TV?

Open the patterns and guides for your device. True full screen and touch depend on the browser; an immersive page preview remains available when full screen is unsupported.

Do I need to install software or upload data?

No installation is needed. Patterns, calculations and interactions run locally in your browser; theme preferences stay on your device.

What should I do if I notice a problem?

Rule out dust, reflections and display settings. Repeat under the same conditions, photograph defects that remain in the same screen position and check the device warranty policy.
