Recognizing color shifts

Neutral, saturated and representative color patches make different kinds of color shifts easier to discuss. Use the patterns to compare settings or screens while keeping the surrounding conditions consistent.

Start with neutral tones

A neutral gray is a useful place to look for a broad green, magenta, blue or yellow cast. Compare light, middle and dark patches rather than judging only a white background. Room lighting and visual adaptation affect perception, so allow your eyes time to settle after a large change in brightness or color.

Compare the same source

If you compare two displays, open the same pattern in the same browser and record the display modes and profiles in use. Differences can come from the panel, settings or color-management path. Similar-looking patches do not by themselves establish that either screen matches a specified reference.

When a number is needed

Delta E expresses a color difference calculated from measurements and a chosen reference. This page does not obtain those measurements. Use the chart to find questions worth investigating; use suitable instruments and a defined workflow when you need a quantitative result or a calibration report.

How to run the test

Look for a general cast or unnatural saturation. Digital patches are not physical reference charts.

  1. Use a default or known color mode.

  2. Inspect the color chart and neutral gray transitions.

  3. For accurate design work, use a colorimeter and color management.

Patterns support visual inspection. Quantitative color accuracy, brightness, gamut coverage and response time require appropriate instruments and methods.

Frequently asked questions

Can this website automatically certify my screen?

No. It provides display test patterns and browser information. Screen anomalies that persist at the same position need visual inspection and, when needed, professional assessment.

Can I use a phone, tablet or TV?

Open the patterns and guides for your device. True full screen and touch depend on the browser; an immersive page preview remains available when full screen is unsupported.

Do I need to install software or upload data?

No installation is needed. Patterns, calculations and interactions run locally in your browser; theme preferences stay on your device.

What should I do if I notice a problem?

Rule out dust, reflections and display settings. Repeat under the same conditions, photograph defects that remain in the same screen position and check the device warranty policy.
