Color Depth Test

Reading screen information…DPR —— bit Browser report

Color depth and visible tonal detail

Closely spaced tones and dithering patterns provide a visual comparison of small color differences. The browser's reported color depth is useful context, but it is not a direct identification of the panel electronics.

Similar neighboring tones

Look for a difference between adjacent patches and compare both dark and light ranges. Brightness, room light and visual adaptation affect how small a difference you can see. Failure to separate a pair does not, on its own, identify the display's native bit depth.

Dithering patterns

A spatial pattern combines neighboring values to suggest an intermediate appearance. Keep the pattern at a known zoom level: scaling can change the relationship between its source pixels and the display. The pattern drawn here is not a detector for a particular panel's temporal FRC implementation.

Reported values and hardware

The color-depth number comes from a browser API. It may describe a different stage from the source image, graphics output or physical panel. For a complete bit-depth check, consider the application's rendering format, output settings, connection and documented hardware capabilities together.

How to run the test

This page cannot certify native 8-bit, 10-bit or FRC panels.

  1. Confirm system output settings.

  2. Compare dark gradients and close-color pairs.

  3. Check native bit depth in your model's specifications.

Patterns support visual inspection. Quantitative color accuracy, brightness, gamut coverage and response time require appropriate instruments and methods.

Frequently asked questions

Can this website automatically certify my screen?

No. It provides display test patterns and browser information. Screen anomalies that persist at the same position need visual inspection and, when needed, professional assessment.

Can I use a phone, tablet or TV?

Open the patterns and guides for your device. True full screen and touch depend on the browser; an immersive page preview remains available when full screen is unsupported.

Do I need to install software or upload data?

No installation is needed. Patterns, calculations and interactions run locally in your browser; theme preferences stay on your device.

What should I do if I notice a problem?

Rule out dust, reflections and display settings. Repeat under the same conditions, photograph defects that remain in the same screen position and check the device warranty policy.
